Q&A: Will Discharge assessments need to be completed immediately upon discharge to ensure accurate PBJ census reporting for the Five-Star staffing calculation?

By Jane Belt, MS, RN, RAC-MT, QCP - April 18, 2018

Question: Will Discharge assessments need to be completed immediately upon discharge to ensure accurate PBJ census reporting for the Five-Star staffing calculation?

Answer: Once the staffing measure in the Five-Star shifts the calculations to the PBJ data, the census will be determined by using the MDSs rather than the census item on the CMS-672. The transition will be occurring later in April.
The Discharge assessments must be completed based on the RAI User’s Manual directions: MDS completion date (Z0500B) + 14 calendar days.

The staff need to figure out a way to complete and submit these timely.
