Q&A: Is it true that therapy co-treatment minutes are NOT calculated into a therapy RUG? How is the SNF reimbursed for co-treatment minutes?

By Carol Maher, RN-BC, CPC, RAC-MT - December 17, 2018

Question: Is it true that therapy co-treatment minutes are NOT calculated into a therapy RUG? And if so, how is the SNF reimbursed for co-treatment minutes?

Answer: The co-treatment minutes are not included in the RUG calculation. When co-treatment occurs, the skilled minutes should also be added to the individual minutes (or concurrent, if appropriate). When co-treatments are included in the individual or concurrent minutes, the actual time would be used in the RUG calculation.
