Q&A: A fall was captured on a stand-alone Part A PPS Discharge and the subsequent assessment is a Quarterly. Would I code this fall again?

By Scott Heichel, RN, CIC, RAC-MT, DNS-CT, QCP - December 03, 2018

QuestionIf I coded a fall on a stand-alone Part A PPS Discharge and the subsequent assessment is a Quarterly, would I code this fall again since the look-back period is “since prior assessment” (OBRA or Scheduled PPS), whichever is more recent?

AnswerJ1900 asks the "number of falls since admission/entry or reentry or prior assessment (OBRA or Scheduled PPS), whichever is more recent."

The NPE (stand-alone PPS Part A Discharge) assessment is not considered a "scheduled" PPS assessment, so this fall would be captured on the Quarterly assessment.
