Board of Directors Application

August, 2010
Dear AANAC Member,

The Board of Directors is asking for volunteers to become candidates for the Board of Directors. Up to four new Directors may be seated on July 1, 2011. Based on our Board's environmental scan and current developments within our association, the Board of Directors is currently seeking volunteers who have one or more of the following skills:
  1. Board leadership experience
  2. Organizational governance including knowledge and skills in policy, legal and fiduciary responsibilities
  3. Professional competencies
  4. Past demonstration of commitment to AANAC
  5. Demonstrated ability to participate productively in group processes
  6. Understanding of governance functions including environmental scanning, strategic planning and organizational positioning
  7. Ability to represent and/or consider diverse needs and perspectives within the long-term care sector
In particular, the Board is looking for individuals with expertise/experience in finance, healthcare policy and advocacy, or as a facility-based RAI Coordinator.

Board members should expect to spend twelve to fifteen (12 - 15) days per year devoted to Board meetings, conference calls, and other organizational meetings. Additional time will be required in reviewing materials for board meetings and related to the organization's development.

What are the benefits of being on the Board of Directors? They are many. Board service is an excellent way to become (and remain) up-to-date on the latest issues, concerns and advancements in the regulatory environment that so dramatically affects the long-term care nursing profession. By being on the Board of Directors, you have an opportunity to personally grow as a health care professional and to have an impact on the professional growth of your peers as they take the journey with you and AANAC. On a more tangible basis, your attendance at all AANAC Conferences is covered, and upon completion of your Board service, you will become a lifetime member of AANAC.

If you are interested, you do not have to be "nominated" - we welcome volunteers. The Nominating Committee is requesting that you obtain the required Prospective Board Member Application online at www.aanac.org. After completing this form, please attach it to your resume and send all paper work by FedEx, UPS or the USPS (return receipt requested). Emails and/or faxes are not acceptable. Mail to:

AANAC
400 S Colorado Blvd, Suite 600
Denver, CO 80246

The deadline to receive all nominations without exception is September 22, 2010. The Nominating Committee will review the applications, and, with approval of the current Board of Directors, submit a final slate to the membership with the fall issue of the newsletter. New Board members will be presented at the National Conference in Atlanta next April. This is a great opportunity to represent nearly 10,000 AANAC members.

Sincerely,

Carol Siem, MSN, RN, BC, GNP, RAC-CT
Chair, Board of Directors
