WHO IS AANAC?
The American Association of Nurse Assessment Coordinators (AANAC) is a non-profit professional
organization dedicated to supporting clinicians who are involved in the Resident Assessment
Instrument/Minimum Data Set (RAI/MDS) process by providing:
- Accurate and timely information on:
- Clinical assessment and care planning
- Regulatory requirements
- Reimbursement
- Quality indicators and quality measures
- Automation and transmission of federally mandated instruments
- Research
- Opportunities for basic and advanced RAI/MDS education
- A strong voice for clinicians in the policy and legislative arena
Founded in February 1999, AANAC has more than 5,500 members nation-wide. With the complexity
of the RAI/MDS process surrounding Medicare reimbursement and quality outcomes, coupled with
the existence of over 17,000 certified long-term care facilities, the potential exists for
over 17,000 members of AANAC. Our goal is to have one clinician per facility join AANAC by
2006.
AANAC is committed to an interdisciplinary approach to resident care. Therefore, our membership
includes:
- Registered Nurses
- Licensed Practical Nurses
- Licensed Vocational Nurses
- Nurse Assessment Coordinators
- Administrators
- Billing Professionals
- Physical Therapists
- Occupational Therapists
- Speech Therapists
- Social Workers
- Health Information Professionals
- Activities Professionals
